Damon (Self-ligating) braces are similar to traditional orthodontic braces in their material make-up and have the same basic function. As with traditional metal braces, there are several variations of self-ligating braces. Damon self-ligating means that the bracket can basically tie itself to the archwire.
How do Damon Braces work?
Damon braces use a specialized clip in place of elastics or metal to help the archwire guide teeth into place. The clip helps reduce the amount of pressure and friction being placed on the tooth, and can decrease the number of adjustments because there are no elastics to replace.
In fact, Dr. Simons was part of the original team that evaluated and tested the Damon Bracket. The Damon® System employs a unique treatment philosophy that goes beyond straight teeth to create broad beautiful smiles. In all of our treatment that we perform, we take into account each patients’ face, profile and other factors, anticipating what patients will look like in their 40’s, 50’s and beyond.
Self-ligating braces are a great option for patients needing braces. Straight teeth and a beautiful smile can enhance self-esteem and self-confidence at any age, plus improve overall oral health. We can help you determine what type of braces will be most effective for your smile. For more general information about braces, visit our braces page.
